Beware of Men from Gayfield
By John Simpson
Doubt hangs over Iain Campbell.
ARBROATH, now back into the Second Division, will be hosts to Alloa on Saturday in the opening League fixture of the new season which could prove tricky for the Wasps.
The Red Lichties lost in the Challenge Cup to last season’s bottom side Forfar on Saturday which does not necessarily mean they will be an easy push-over his weekend.
The Arbroath boss John McGlashan, a tower of strength in defence when he played for the Lichties, is determined his boys will bounce back immediately.
He said, “There were lessons to be learned from our 2-1 defeat by the Loons but generally speaking I am happy with the way we played.
“We looked like a decent team for large parts of the game. We created odd chances and the game should have been over for us with a win.
"Then we had that 10 minute spell when Forfar came back into the game to win.”
A warning then for Alloa, but Allan Maitland will be well aware of what has to be done in Saturday’s battle for the points.
He told the Advertiser this week as he prepared his side for the friendly fixture on Monday evening at Falkirk, “I will be telling our players to expect a very difficult game at Arbroath. This could be a dangerous time up there so we must be ready.
“I’m sure their crowd and players will be up for it but hopefully so will we.
“This season I want to do well in our home fixtures and take something from the away games but I am under no illusions about Saturday for I believe it could be a game fraught with danger for us.”
Speaking about his formation, the manager said, “We have defender Iain Campbell in doubt after he picked up a knock in the Dundee match but hopefully he will not be joining the injured list of Brown Ferguson, Dougie Wilson and Fraser Forrest.
“Scot Buist has served his cup susdpension so he will be clear to play at Arbroath.”
Kick-off at Gayfield, 3pm.
