Alloa skipper Chris Townsley is a doubt for Saturday's game after picking up an injury against Ayr United.

ALLOA are aiming to carve out their first league win of the season this Saturday – and end their unwanted record of being the only side in the Second Division without a point.

But the visitors to Recreation Park are full-time outfit Raith Rovers who will undoubtedly pose a difficult afternoon for Allan Maitland’s troops.

The Alloa manager will demand better for his boys, knowing a victory could be the stepping stone to a decent run, which is badly needed at this time.

Making an impression in the league will be uppermost in manager Maitland’s mind – and that begins on Saturday.

He was anything but pleased by the manner of the defeat by Ayr, saying, “We really have to regroup after that defeat. We just did not defend properly and were not nearly sharp enough.

“In the first 45 minutes Ayr were the better side and scored two good goals.

“We may have been better in the second half when we showed much more effort, but we went on to miss scoring chances.”

So, looking ahead to the Raith Rovers game, one man hoping to take his usual position in defence is captain Chris Townsley.

The tall defender had to leave the field in 81 minutes against Ayr because of injury.

He said this week, “I have been having trouble with a strained hamstring and felt it before the match.

“This week I will be speaking to our physiotherapist Jim Law to see what he thinks, but I feel I should be alright to play against Raith.”

Meanwhile, manager Maitland will check this week on his growing list of injured players.

Dougie Wilson, Brown Ferguson, Andy Ferguson, Fraser Forrest David McClune and Chris Townsley are all eother out or doubtful for Saturday's match.

Maitland will be disccussing the situation with physio Jim Law for a final run-down on his list of crocked players.
