FIONA MATHESON from the Falkirk Victoria Harriers became ladies champion for the third successive year of the Sheriffmuir Challenge Road Race on Sunday.
Over 100 runners from across Scotland descended on Sheriffmuir for the 11 mile course organised by local children’s charity the Margaret J Gordon Art & Craft Trust.
The weather stayed clear for the athletes as they took to the undulating route from the Sheriffmuir Inn towards the A9 near Blackford before returning to the Inn.
This year Steven Moore of Smartsoft Business Solutions, Dunblane, had the honour of firing the starter pistol for the race sponsored by The Sheriffmuir Inn and Highland Spring.
First across the finish line was Robert Russell of Central AC who came in at 59 minutes and 28 seconds followed by team-mate David Lindsay (66.09mins) and Steven Allan, Kirkintilloch Olympians (68.01mins).
Fiona Matheson was the first lady home in 68 minutes and 44 seconds and the win marked her third successive title at the race since it was established in 2006.
To celebrate her achievement Fiona will be presented with a trophy to commemorate the event at the Trust’s cabaret night in Alloa Town Hall next month.
She was followed in the race by Jennifer McMaster, Fife AC (75.28mins) and Beryl Junnier, Wee County Harriers (77.42mins).
Around £1100 was raised for the Margaret J Gordon Art & Craft Trust.
Chairman John Gordon said, “It was a brilliant day. I’m overwhelmed by the amount of people that took part. The phone was going crazy.
“A few of the runners have been emailing me saying it was a fantastic day and a lovely place to run. Now we’re looking forward to next year.”
