THE history and future of Clackmannan will go hand in hand at an event on Saturday.

‘Clackmannan Rediscovered’ will feature expert speakers from historical groups, and community organisations set to improve the town.

The event will take place on 26 April from 1pm to 4.30pm in Clackmannan Town Hall and has been organised by the Clackmannan Development Trust (CDT).

The CDT was created last year with the aim of preserving and improving the historic town and boosting its tourist numbers.

It has teamed up with Historic Scotland, the local authority’s archive and heritage services and local history groups to present the afternoon programme of lectures and an exhibition to showcase the town’s history.

Robert Horne, CDT chair, said, “This is a unique opportunity to come along and hear five very informative talks from various specialists in their fields all about the History of Clackmannan our old county town.

“Everyone at the CDT are very excited about this event and hope that it is the beginning of a journey rather than just a one off. I would like to extend a big thank you to our participants and organisers for all their hard work in putting this special afternoon together for the people of Clackmannan and the Wee County.” The talks will begin from 1pm to 3pm on the history of the Clackmannan landscape, the role of the church, Clackmannan Tower built by Sir Robert Bruce and the effect of the rise and fall of coal mining.

An exhibition will then take place until 4.30pm where residents can give feedback on proposals to regenerate the town centre and volunteer at future events.
