A LITTLE girl has raised an astonishing amount of money after getting her long hair cut so she could donate it to sick kids.

Lexie Baillie asked her mum and dad if she could get her locks cut after watching a YouTube video of another youngster doing it and donating it to the Little Princess Trust.

The seven-year-old from Clackmannan needed to raise £500 to cover the cost of turning her hair into a wig, but after some wonderful fundraising events the total sits at a whopping £1,700.

Little Lexie got the cut on Saturday at Laura’s Hair and Beauty, Clackmannan, and then her family held a fundraising party in the Clackmannan Masonic Hall in the evening where £1,000 was raised in just one evening.

Lexie’s mum Charlotte told the Advertiser: “It went really, really well. We are sitting at just over £1,700 and managed to raise £1,000 on Saturday night alone.”

Despite losing so much of her hair, Lexie has taken everything in her stride and was excited to show her new hairdo off.

Mum Charlotte said: “She loved it. She could not wait to get to school today to show everyone. Even on Saturday morning she was excited as soon as she woke up. I was always confident that she would like it.”

Speaking about Saturday night’s success, Charlotte said: "We sold 83 tickets for the evening event, but because of the poor weather only around 40 odd turned up. That makes the money raised even more amazing.”

The total was raised mainly through a raffle which contained items donated by Toys ‘R’ Us, Asda and Pretty Little Horseshoes, a shop in Dollar.

There was also an auction on Saturday night with the biggest draw being a signed Rangers top which attracted a £200 bid to help towards the overall total.

As well as the football top, there were two all day wristbands for M&D’s, as well as Wicks tools and worktops up for grabs.

Lexie’s wonderful total will now mean that at least three wigs can be made, and will to go a long way in helping a child who lost their own hair due to chemotherapy or alopecia.

Donations are still welcome until the end of March when the family will take the total to the charity.

Charlotte and family would like to pass on her thanks to all friends and family who donated and attended on Saturday night as well as Laura who cut Lexie’s hair.
