THE Clackmannanshire Joint Community Councils Forum (JCCF) is holding a meeting in Alloa next week to discuss ways of strengthening local democracy.

The event will take place on Thursday, 19 March, and will focus on practical improvements to the current community council system.

Rory Mair, the chief executive of the Convention for Scottish Local Authorities (CoSLA), has been announced as the keynote speaker for the evening.

Jon Jordan, chair of the Joint Community Council Forum said: “Local democracy is about more than voting at elections. It is also about involving communities and seeking their views on matters that directly affect them.

“Anyone with an interest in how their community is involved is welcome to attend the meeting.

“We hope that the commission’s findings will spark a debate about community involvement at a time when all levels of government are facing difficult decisions.” Clackmannanshire community councils want to make sure that the voice of local communities is a strong one and stress that local views must be heard in decisions that affect them.

The event will be held at 7pm in the Alloa Campus of Forth Valley College. To book a place e-mail jccf.clacks@gmail.com THE Clackmannanshire Joint Community Councils Forum (JCCF) is holding a meeting in Alloa next week to discuss ways of strengthening local democracy.
