SCHOOLS across Clackmannanshire pulled out all the stops to mark Red Nose Day on Friday (13 March).

There was plenty of enthusiasm across the county, as pupils did their bit to raise money for the annual Comic Relief event.

Craigbank Primary School gathered funds through a sponsored walk to Auchinbaird Windmill, by selling cakes, dressing red with a funny face and taking part in a number of ‘make your face funny for money’ activities.

The day was a huge success and thanks is given to the parents who joined in with the walk and for donating a huge amount of delicious cakes.

The event, organised by Mrs Mitchell and the Pupil Council, has raised £1850 so far.

Over at Abercromby Primary School the Pupil Council arranged the sale of red noses and each class managed their own fundraising efforts, which included making funny face cakes, holding a red raffle and setting up a selfie booth.

There was also plenty of funny faces in keeping with the theme – make your face funny for money – and in the run up to the day pupils learned about where the money will go and the Red Nose Day song ‘Put On A Happy Face’.

The fundraising endeavours have raised £900 to date.

Youngsters at Fishcross Primary donned something red for the day, while some painted their faces, dyed their hair or wore a wig.

There was a red themed tuck shop, fun activities in the class and the designing of funny faces – raising £86.45.

Pupils at Strathdevon Primary School dressed casually for the day in return for a donation to Comic Relief, while the nursery children wore as much red as they possibly could.

Combined with red nose sales, the Dollar school raised £450.76.

Comic Relief has raised more than £1bn since the charity was founded 30 years ago and more than £78m was raised by the end of the live show on Friday.

Across the county, Tillicoultry Primary Nursery, Banchory, Coalsnaughton and Alva primaries also got involved and there was plenty of fun and games for the occasion.

There was also lots of support in Alloa for Red Nose Day and Specsavers’ comedy specs last week.

Former First Minister Alex Salmond donned a pair outside the Alloa store on High Street, while with retail director, Lynne Sangster, store manager, Tendai Ndoro, and contact lens specialist Ann Lees, and across the road staff at D’nisi Coffee also got into the spirit.
