AN ALLOA man who falsely accused a female prison officer of having sex with him in his cell has been sent back to jail for another 12 months on Thursday.

Andy Sprengel (28) ranted on Facebook after being released early from HMP Glenochil Prison on 19 May this year.

He named the prison officer on the social networking site and posted: “There is a lassie tht wrks n glenochil prison so soon everyone wul find out wat shes bn up tae wae other prisoners.”

Five days after his release he fantasised on line: “Missing my gorjus officer [name].”

Then on 25 May he posted: “Tht [name] reported me tae the police and it was they tht wen she came n tae ma cell...plus she tried tae gt me tae kill maself aswell.

“Am going tae the papers about it and tell them everything tht we done and tht. A wul b gtn compo + she b bk on job seekers.”

The comments were later spotted and police were called to investigate.

Sprengel was quickly arrested, fulfilling a prophesy he had also posted on Facebook after his release, which read: “Al b bk n glenochil soon”.

At Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday (17 September), Sprengel appeared for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to stalking the officer between 23-27 May this year.

He admitted repeatedly posting “offensive, sexual and alarming” comments relating to the officer on Facebook, and also turning up early in the morning at the jail and asking for her.

Depute fiscal Rory Ferguson said the officer concerned first learned about the comments from others.

"After checking them for herself, she reported the matter to her superiors and went straight to the police," he said.

Asking the court to grant a non-harassment order, the prosecutor added: “Police noted that she was visibly upset and distressed.”

Defence agent Jim Savage said: “This is a man who has considerable difficulty in coping with life outside custody. When he gets out he finds it difficult to do what he requires to do.”

Mr Savage added: “The comments, though public, were made during conversations on Facebook with others, and he never contacted her directly.”

In addition to the jail term, Sheriff David Mackie granted a 12 month order preventing Sprengel from contacting or communicating with the prison officer.

He also imposed a six-month supervised release order.
