A man is to face trial accused of trying to gouge out the eyes of a taxi driver.

Derek McArthur, 51, is also said to have thrown food at the driver, punched him on the head, headbutted him, and seized him by the head, before attempting to gouge his eyes out.

The assault is alleged to have taken place in the moving cab at a location within the jurisdiction of Falkirk Sheriff Court on February 24 last year while the driver was in the course of his employment.

McArthur, of Central Avenue, Grangemouth, pleaded not guilty at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Wednesday, January 20 to the single charge against him.

Sheriff Christopher Shead released him on bail, and set trial for April 15.

He also ordered McArthur to appear at a pre-trial review hearing on March 3.
