A lag who threw the contents of an unflushed cell block loo over three warders was jailed for eight months on Wednesday.

Laura Huggins, 22, also twice set fire to her cell in Cornton Vale Prison, Stirling, Scotland's only all-female jail, and assaulted a female prison officer, kicking her six times on the back.

The wardress had to be taken to hospital with "contusions" after the kicking, in August last year.

Prosecutor Ann Orr told Stirling Sheriff Court that the toilet-water incident, also last August, began when three warders tried to give Huggins medication.

She was given the tablets and a plastic cup of water, but then bent over the toilet.

Mrs Orr said the prison officers initially thought Huggins was going to flush her pills down the pan, but instead she put both hands into the bowl and tossed the contents over the warders, Gavin Cochrane, James Paterson, and Tracey Patterson.

She said: "There's sh*t an' all in there."

Huggins, of Northview Court, Pilton, Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to assault, assault to injury, and wilful fire-raising.

Damage from the two fire-raising incidents cost the Scottish Prison Service more than £900.

Imposing the jail sentence, Sheriff Wyllie Robertson told Huggins: "These were serious offences."
