AN ALLOA man has been locked up for seven years after repeatedly stabbing a man at a house party last year.

George Drummond pleaded guilty to attempted murder when he appeared before the High Court in Glasgow on 22 January.

The 34-year-old claimed he was being bullied by the complainer and took the kitchen knife to his neck and chest in a frenzied revenge attack.

Drummond later told police: "I stabbed him in the throat. I wanted to kill the motherf***er."

He then appeared at the High Court again this morning (Thursday) and was told to serve seven years in prison.

Lady Scott said the jail term would have been nine years, had it not been for his guilty plea.

Drummond will also be supervised for a further two years after his release.

The incident took place at a house party in Whins Road, Alloa, on September 26 last year.

He and his 40-year-old victim were invited to celebrate a mutual friend's birthday party with the alleged bullying continuing amid a heavy drinking session.

It is believed the victim was sleeping on the couch when Drummond grabbed the knife and struck him repeatedly on the body.

A statement released by Forth Valley Police shortly after the incident said: “Officers were called out to a property in Whins Road, Alloa, at around 8.30pm.

"We have arrested and charged a 34-year-old man with attempted murder following an incident where a 40-year-old man sustained lacerations to his neck."

Drummond fled the scene, while his blood-soaked victim was rushed to hospital.

He required treatment for a number of wounds to his neck and chest and has been left scarred for life as a result of the attack.

Drummond then dialled 999, insisting he had been the victim of an attack, before police arrested him for the stabbing.

He went on to admit: “I went right for the jugular, but I must have missed."

On being charged, he also said his victim “should not be a bully”.

Speaking after the sentence was handed down, Detective Constable Gavin Dingwall, of Police Scotland, said: “George Dummond subjected his victim to a significant level of violence, which was fuelled by alcohol and resulted in serious injury to the man’s neck and chest.

“Thankfully he was able to recover from this attack or Drummond would now be facing the prospect of a prison sentence for murder.

“As part of this investigation Drummond was quickly detained before being arrested and charged.

“I hope today’s sentence sends a clear message that violence within our communities will not be tolerated and anyone responsible for crimes of this nature will be robustly dealt with.”
