A FORMER Glenochil prisoner caused £865 worth of damage to his cell.
On Thursday at Alloa Sheriff Court, Steven Coupar admitted destroying the contents, fixtures and fittings on July 21 last year.
Fiscal depute Ruairidh Ferguson told the court that at the time of the offence the 22-year-old was the sole occupant of the cell.
Without reasonable excuse, the accused damaged the mattress, lamp, kettle, sink, television, wall unit, paintwork, mirror and windows.
Defence agent Toni Pentecost claimed that her client, of Elm Bank in Cambuslang, has battled with some mental health problems “for some time”.
Coupar had stopped taking medication around the time of the incident.
Although not the sole reason for his outburst, it did play a part.
These issues are now being addressed and Coupar was said to be back on medication.
Sheriff Gillian Wade told Coupar: “You seem to be taking some steps to getting yourself back on track.”
She then sentenced him to a community payback order with 18 months’ supervision.
