A HUSBAND beat his wife on Valentine’s Day.

Last Thursday at Alloa Sheriff Court, Rafal Mazurek pleaded guilty to repeatedly punching his partner on the head at their home address on February 14 this year.

The 36-year-old, of Alloa’s Gordon Drive, also admitted resisting arrest on the same date.

Fiscal depute Ruairidh Ferguson told the court that the couple had been married for 11 years and had moved from Poland to live in the UK nine years ago.

On the night in question, the accused was drinking alcohol and listening to music in his bedroom.

His wife went into the children’s room to sleep alongside their youngest child, however the music was too loud.

Mazurek refused to turn it down and instead made more drinks. His wife returned to the kids’ bedroom while the accused continued listening to his music.

Later on Mazurek entered his daughters’ bedroom and repeatedly punched his wife five or six times on the head.

She sustained several injuries, including bruising to the right eye, a swollen left eye and swelling to the nose and mouth.

Her mouth was also bleeding slightly from one side.

The complainer called the police at 6.20am the following morning from the bathroom.

Officers arrived 20 minutes later and Mazurek attempted to resist arrest by tensing his arms whilst being handcuffed, but they eventually managed to detain him.

Sheriff David Mackie deferred sentence until April 21 for the preparation of a Criminal Justice Social Work report and Caledonian Men’s Programme assessment.

Defence agent Claire McCarron asked for Mazurek’s bail conditions to be removed so he could return to the family home.

Although his wife was there in support of Mazurek, Sheriff Mackie refused the application until the case calls again.
