A DRUG dealer has been given a community sentence.

On Thursday, April 7 at Alloa Sheriff Court, Oliver Norval admitted being concerned in the supply of cannabis from an address in the town’s Ashley Terrace on August 19 last year.

Fiscal depute Ruairidh Ferguson told the court that £467 worth of the Class B drug and various sums of cash amounting to more than £3,000 were recovered during a police search of the 23-year-old’s former house.

The cannabis had been divided into bags ranging from 1g-7g.

When cautioned and charged, Norval stated: “I’ve not sold any drugs. The drugs in the house were not for sale.”

Defence agent Jim Savage claimed that his client, now of Wishart Drive in Stirling, was “no longer tempted” by cannabis and has since disassociated himself from the drug.

It was stated in court that within Norval’s Criminal Justice Social Work report, the accused had claimed the police had falsified the amount of cannabis found during their search.

However, Mr Savage added that his client accepted the guilty plea he tendered in respect to the charge.

Sheriff David Mackie highlighted that it was Norval’s third charge relating to drugs, but would give him one more chance.

Norval was sentenced to a Community Payback Order with supervision for a year and 250 hours of unpaid work to be completed within six months.

The Crown submitted a confiscation order under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

That case will continue on April 21.
