LOVE was not in the air at a wedding when a guest turned nasty and attacked a caretaker.

On Thursday, Gavin Doig admitted the assault at Alloa Town Hall on August 27 this year.

Fiscal depute Ann Orr told the county’s sheriff court that the accused was spotted by the worker attempting to force open a locked door to get out of the venue.

Doig, who was described as being upset, became angry when he was told to use another exit.

He punched the caretaker on the head, causing his victim to fall to the ground. The accused then got on top of him before he was hauled away by another guest.

Although the complainer received a cut on the top of his head, he did not require medical treatment.

The fracas was witnessed by a waitress.

Doig, 23, then punched a glass pane in a door. It smashed, cutting the accused.

An ambulance was called; however, Doig had to be restrained as he would not stop thrashing about, shouting and swearing whilst the emergency crews attended to the heavy bleeding from his wrist.

When eventually arrested and taken to Falkirk Police Station, he told officers: “All I can do is apologise.”

Sheriff Kevin Veal sentenced Doig, of Alloa’s Kent Road, to a Community Payback Order with 50 hours of unpaid work to be completed within six months.

The accused was also ordered to pay £250 compensation for smashing the glass pane.
