A MAN who got behind the wheel while under the influence has been banned from the roads for two years.

On Thursday, Robert Wilson admitted driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs on Tillicoultry's Hill Street on December 30, 2015.

The 33-year-old, of Queen Street in Alva, also pleaded guilty to breaking his bail conditions by failing to appear at Alloa Sheriff Court without a reasonable excuse on September 20 last year.

Fiscal depute Laura Knox told the court that police attended an area at around 11.50pm on December 30, 2015, to make enquiries about a road traffic accident.

The accused's vehicle was found parked and secure, but had sustained damage.

The officers were then approached by a male, who smelled of alcohol, had glazed eyes and was slurring his words.

The man eventually walked past the vehicle and into a house.

On January 7, 2016, the accused was interviewed and admitted he was the driver on the night in question.

He was then identified as the male who was seen to be under the influence on that evening. He was thereafter charged.

It was reported that the accused has since engaged fully with the social work department and has toned down his alcohol consumption.

Wilson, who appeared from custody, was remanded on December 29 last year and would now "do anything to avoid a custodial sentence".

As well as the driving ban, Sheriff J.K. Tierney sentenced Wilson to a Community Payback Order with supervision and 130 hours of unpaid work to be completed within 12 months.
