A MAN attempted to pervert the course of justice when he was caught driving without insurance and a proper licence.

Last Wednesday at the county's Justice of the Peace Court, Blair Wilson admitted getting behind the wheel without the correct paperwork in place on November 19 last year.

As a provisional licence holder, the accused failed to display 'L' plates and was illegally driving without supervision.

When the 35-year-old was pulled over by police on Alloa's Whins Road, he "panicked" and gave a false name and date of birth to avoid detection and prosecution.

Fiscal depute Matthew Kerr stated that the crime came to light after enquiries were made when the fixed penalty issued at the time of the offence was not paid.

Defending, Chris Macfarlane explained that his client is currently disqualified from driving until August due to the 'totting up' of penalty points.

Mr Macfarlane stated that the accused knew he didn't have insurance and "panicked" when spoken to by the police, which led him to give false information.

Justice Michael Bromby told the accused: "This is not the first time you have been caught with no insurance."

For driving without legal cover, Wilson was banned from the roads for two years and fined £400.

For getting behind the wheel without a proper licence, supervision and failing to display 'L' plates, he was fined an additional £100.

The accused, of Roundelwood in Tillicoultry, avoided further punishment and was admonished for attempting to pervert the course of justice.
