AN ALLOA man has been jailed after leading police on a dangerous high-speed car chase across Fife last week.

Kristopher Christie skipped roadblocks and spike traps as he raced his way along a 20-mile stretch from Glenrothes to Rosyth.

He was clocked at more than 90mph and was only stopped following a dramatic intervention from traffic cops.

Christie was then arrested and appeared from custody at Dunfermline Sheriff Court – pleading guilty to dangerous driving, as well as driving while banned and without a license.

The presiding sheriff later remarked that Christie’s actions amounted to the “worst piece of dangerous driving” he had come across in some time.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said the pursuit began at 10.25pm on Tuesday, June 20, when the accused was caught speeding through a check point set up on A92 between Balfarg and Cadham.

Officers gave chase as Christie’s Nissan Almera sped off through Glenrothes and Thornton before following the road west towards Dunfermline.

The pursuit intensified as the car swerved from lane to lane in a move aimed at preventing the police from passing in front.

An attempt was then made to halt Christie’s vehicle on the A92 using a stinger device – a spike trap which is rolled across the tarmac with the aim of puncturing tyres of a speeding car.

It was deployed near the Lochgelly junction, though it ultimately proved unsuccessful with Christie simply swerving around it and continuing at speeds in excess of 90mph.

Another attempt was made to stop the car at the Dunfermline junction, but Christie avoided the roadblock by taking a detour on to a grass verge and cutting onto the M90.

He then drove on the hard shoulder, speeding past vehicles on the inside.

Heading towards Rosyth, and approaching a built-up area, the decision was made to force the vehicle to a stop.

One police officer took action and collided with the rear of the speeding car, causing it to spin out and come to rest.

Christie, of Scott Crescent, was then detained and brought before the court the following day.

Sheriff Craig McSherry jailed him for a total of 10 months and banned him from driving for two years.
