A MAN landed himself in front of a sheriff after shouting homophobic abuse.

Kevin Thomson, 23, of Gaberston Avenue, Alloa, appeared in the town’s court for sentencing on Thursday, July 20, having previously pleaded guilty.

He was charged with having acted in a threatening and abusive manner likely to cause a reasonable person fear or alarm on May 21.

He had behaved aggressively at Gaberston Avenue, kicked a car, shouted, swore and uttered abusive and homophobic comments.

He also made remarks on the phone.

Last week, fiscal depute Matthew Kerr told Alloa Sheriff Court that the incident erupted at around 3.10pm.

The ruckus that followed stemmed from a “heated verbal altercation” which ensued between the accused and a family member at a property.

Thereafter, when Thomson moved away from the address, he kicked a car then shouted to the same person who was standing at the front door, you “f*****g poofy b*****d” and “you wee f*****g girl” and told him to “get out my house”.

The accused then made a call which was picked up by another family member.

This was then handed over to the complainer and Thomson was heard uttering comments of a similar nature.

The court was told that when he was cautioned and charged in relation to the incident, he made no reply.

In defence, Leanne Maitland cited a difficult relationship between her client and the family members.

She said Thomson was “consuming less alcohol” and was going out less frequently.

She added he “accepts full responsibility for his actions” and that he assured her “this is not a road he wants to go down”.

Sheriff David Mackie handed him a £200 fine, reduced from £300 on account of his plea, payable at £25 per week.
