TWO violent armed thugs who launched an attack on an unarmed man in his own home have been jailed for a total of more than 10 years.

John McMahon, 28, and Steven Miller, 29, were convicted at the High Court in Glasgow last Thursday of assaulting their victim to the danger of his life.

The attack took place at the latter's address on Hawkhill Road, Alloa, around 8pm on June 3.

McMahon stabbed the man once in the body before Miller smashed him in the face with a house brick.

Doctors later had to remove the victim's spleen as a result of the vicious attack.

Sentencing fell before Judge Lord Arthurson who jailed McMahon for four years and eight months and Millar for six years.

He told them: “You have been convicted of a vicious and concerted attack with weapons on an unarmed man in his own home which resulted in catastrophic medical consequences. Your previous convictions are deplorable.”

Both accused were originally charged with attempted murder, but the jury convicted them of a lesser charge.

Prosecutor Richard Goddard said: "Both accused have previous convictions for crimes of violence.

“Mr Miller has previously assaulted [the same victim] in 2015 and was jailed for two years on that occasion.”

A neighbour of the complainer told the court that she came home from work and saw men running out of the house on Hawkhill Road.

She said she went to see what was happened and found the wife of the victim to be hysterical and added: “She said [he] had been stabbed.”

The 47-year-old witness added: “I went in and [he] was in the conservatory covered in blood. I told [her] to get towels and I held them to his wound until the police and paramedics arrived.”

The court also heard that there had been a confrontation between the accused and the complainer a couple of days before the attack.
