A CLACKMANNAN man has been told he is facing a prison sentence for carrying out a sustained and brutal assault on someone he owed money to.

Mark Sinclair, 23, pleaded guilty to assaulting another male by repeatedly punching him on the head and body to his severe injury.

Susan Campbell, prosecuting, told Alloa Sheriff Court on Monday this week that the complainer was on a night out in Stirling on April 2, 2017.

He met up at an address with others and continued to consumed alcohol.

The complainer was then involved in an argument and left after breaking property at around 6.30am, uninjured.

He then attended Sinclair's flat in Izatt Terrace, Clackmannan and the pair then proceeded to drink straight vodka together.

Ms Campbell continued: "A discussion over a £50 debt started at which point the accused jumped from the floor where he was sitting and started punching the complainer on the head as he sat on the couch.

"During the altercation the complainer had his t-shirt ripped off him. That same morning at 9am a neighbour entered the locus and saw the complainer drunk with injuries to his face.

"The complainer then left so drunk that he fell and hit his head on the pavement."

The victim was then taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital where he was treated for numerous injuries including swelling to the centre of his jaw, bruising to his jaw and both eyes. He also suffered injuries to his chest wall.

He discharged himself after staying overnight, although he is still receiving treatment for his injuries nearly a year after the attack took place, according to Ms Campbell.

Sheriff David Mackie deferred sentence for the preparation of criminal justice social work reports but told Sinclair: "This merits a custodial sentence for what is a quite serious assault."
