A FATHER and son who failed to sign their shotgun certificates have been admonished after it was deemed that a conviction was punishment enough.

William Wilson, 69, and Andrew Wilson, 37, had pleaded guilty to the offence which states that being the holder of a shotgun certificate, they must sign it in ink and failed to do so.

The date of the offence for William Wilson is between October 21, 2016 and November 8, 2017; however, the date of Andrew Wilson’s offence is between November 8, 2013 and November 8. 2017.

Alloa Sheriff Court heard last Thursday, April 12, that police had attended their property on Muircot Place, Tillicoultry, for another matter and then noticed this offence.

Subsequently, a number of guns were seized from the property while investigations were carried out.

Mr Ross, who was defending the men, told the court that it was purely an “oversight” on their part and that the weapons were completely secure within the property.

The lawyer added that neither man had any previous convictions and that the whole incident had “caused embarrassment by having to appear in court”.

Sheriff David Mackie told the men that he was satisfied that it was an oversight, adding that a conviction was punishment enough for them.

Both men were then admonished.
