A Clackmannanshire-born man is to be appointed Queen's Counsel at the end of next month.

Former Claremont Primary School, Alloa and Dollar Academy pupil Douglas Campbell will become QC, when he will be appointed by Her Majesty at a ceremony in Westminster Hall on February 22.

When he was attending Dollar Academy, he won both the Kennedy and Mylne medals for academic achievement and he was also awarded the Eric Liddell Memorial Trophy for his outstanding performance at the Scottish Schools Athletic Championships.

He also ran in the 100 metres hurdles for Scotland at junior level.

Before going onto law, in which he has over 20 years' of experience, he obtained a first class honours in chemistry, with distinction in quantum chemistry, from Oxford University – where he also won a Blue for athletics.

Part time, he also sat as judge on a variety of courts in England.
