A WEE County chorus hit the right note at the 92nd Perthshire Music Festival.

Members of Hillfoot Harmony sang their way to the top earlier this month, scooping the choral union rose bowl in the adult category.

Grace Hepburn, a spokesperson for the group, said they were "absolutely delighted" to have netted the award.

She added: "We just entered the festival because we have been practising a lot of songs for another big competition that we are going to in Cork.

"We wanted to get some practice singing at a different festival. It was really good fun.

"We have got six new members and they were all singing in the chorus. It was the first time they actually sang out somewhere and they were absolutely delighted that we won the rose bowl."

Hillfoot Harmony is one of only three groups in Scotland that is part of Sweet Adelines International, a worldwide organisation of female singers.

The Dollar-based chorus work together towards a shared goal of improving their singing and following their passion.

Grace said: "We sing a capella so we are four part harmony. We don't have any music in the background so it's all just our voices.

"We meet to rehearse every Wednesday in the Burnside Hall in Dollar and there's 40 of us.

"The group has been going for 12 years and we still have around 10 members from when the organisation started up.

"It's an amazing kind of form because you are actually exercising while you're singing; you're exercising your breathing and your concentration. It's fantastic for the mind."

There is a wealth of experience within the group, which is led by musical directors Catherine Macdonald and Dianne Barrett, along with plenty of camaraderie.

It is currently looking for new members and all are welcome – the youngest is currently 27 and the oldest is in their 80s.

Grace said: "They absolutely don't need to have had any formal singing training in the past and don't have to read music.

"I would say just give it a go. They can come along for six weeks and try it free of charge."

A fundraiser is also being held in the Burnside Hall on Friday, May 20, where there will be a fashion show and singing.

Tickets are £6 (which includes a glass of wine) and the event will help the group attend a competition in Cork.
