IT will be a quacking time when dozens of bright yellow ducks are dashing downstream in Dollar at an annual event.

The Dollar Duck Race will be taking place in the River Devon next Saturday, May 7, raising the spirits of, and funds for, the local community.

A popular family event in the local calendar, the race usually attracts a large crowd who are this year invited to the civic centre thereafter for a breakfast barbecue, stalls, craft fair and much more.

The event used to raise funds for local charitable playgroup Dollar Under Fives, but is organised by Dollar Community Council for the first time in a while this year.

Stephen Leitch explained: “The community council is taking the ducks on. The funds raised will go for overall, wider-bound, community benefit.

“We've got a good team of volunteers, they are pulling it all together. The Beavers [were] on the street this weekend, selling ducks and badges.

“As well as ordinary ducks, we have corporate ducks – we get local businesses to spend a bit more money, it's not a lot more, and it gets businesses involved in community events as well.”

The barbecue is supported by local Brian Devlin Butchers and the Co-operative.

Stephen added: “We are quite looking forward to it, see how it goes, see if we can make it a good event for everyone.”

The ducks will be launched from the burnside at Dollar Golf Club at 10am, people can buy a duck for £2, they are available from Dollar's Deli, Brian Devlin's and the Post Office.
