POLICE are hunting thieves who rifled a charity box from a takeaway in Dollar last weekend.

The culprits are said to have kicked in the window and door of Mo's Plaice on Bridge Street before swiping the tin.

Two men were seen fleeing the scene of the theft, which took place at around 4.30am on Saturday, September 17.

Owner Mohammed Reza Parandian told the Advertiser there was around £70 in the box when it was taken.

However, he also estimates that the cost of the damage could be as high as £1000.

The tin was sat on the counter of the shop and was displayed for customers to contribute to Dollar Glen FC.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police in Forth Valley are appealing to the public after there was a break-in at a premises on Bridge Street, Dollar, on September 17.

"A window was smashed and a charity tin containing a sum of money was stolen.

"Anyone with any information is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 or, if they want to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

It is the second time that charity boxes have been stolen from a shop premises in Clacks recently.

Last month, a man was arrested in relation to what was described as a "despicable" theft at the Baynes bakery in Tillicoultry.

The incident also took place during the early hours of the morning and a 41-year-old later appeared in court.
