DOLLAR ACADEMY students gathered under he shadow of the school's War Memorial last Sunday to remember those who gave their lives serving the nation.
The Guard of Honour Party took its post under the command of Guard Commander RSM Niall Baird, FVI, and piper Andrew Ferguson played 'Flowers of the Forest' as wreaths were laid.
The Tryst was then piped while Sergeant Cameron McCall sounded the 'Last Post' at the end of the ceremony with notes echoing through the grey mist.
Contingent executive officer Captain Mark P Scott said: “The ceremony was a moving moment of reflection for all concerned.”
Many from the school joined families, couples and individuals from the town with the school's boarding community, staff members and former pupils also joining in.
Leading up to the event, the JIP class, at their own request to teacher Ms Pollock, spent the week undertaking Remembrance Day activities and wanted to pay tribute in their own special way.
They read and discussed the poem 'In Flanders Field', created shape poems and shared their stories of family members who had died in the war.
Pupils watched wartime videos and then created their own poems, inspired by what they had read, seen and heard.
Finally, they created their own wreath by tracing their hands on red card. They wrote messages on small individual “poppies” before putting them together into a meaningful wreath.
They then laid it in front of the academy's War Memorial on Friday ahead of Remembrance Sunday.
