DOLLAR Tennis Club’s free open day has been rescheduled after rain stopped play on Saturday, May 20.

The decision was made to wait another week to officially kick-off their 2017 season after heavy rain over the weekend made courts unsafe to play on.

The event is for anyone interested in tennis, prospective new club joiners and current members, and will now go ahead on Saturday, May 27 from 11am to 4pm.

Everyone is welcome for an afternoon of fun activities, whether a beginner, social or experienced team player.

Casha McNab, Dollar Tennis Club secretary, said: "It was awful luck that May, 20 turned out to be such bad weather, but the forecast for this weekend is hot and sunny, so we are keeping our fingers crossed for a brilliant day.

"Saturday, 27 will be a fun day out for adults and kids with the chance to play on our refurbished courts, try out some of the new activities and classes we have introduced, brush up on their tennis for free and meet some of our club members."

There will be a range of free activities, including mini tennis, two cardio tennis classes, a taster coaching session, fun doubles tournaments for adults and kids, a fastest serve contest for all ages, and the opportunity to 'hit' on court with members.

There will also be a BBQ with fresh burgers and sausages from Dollar’s Brian Devlin Butchers, home baking and refreshments, and a prize draw with a chance to win a free year’s membership to the tennis club.

Although people can turn up on the day, spaces for activities are subject to availability, so please pre-register to help the organisers improve their event planning/catering and ensure session slots are reserved early to avoid disappointment.
