VIDA will be bringing the curtain down on a massive year with a Wee County gig next week.

The Alloa five-piece have spent the last few months playing gigs up and down the UK, including a slot at Cumbria's Milecastle 66 festival in September.

Only a few months earlier, the band released their single Fade Away with a gig at the O2 ABC in Glasgow, before then launching their Masquerade EP with a headline show at King Tut's on Bonfire Night.

They have started to make a name for themselves throughout the country, with tens of thousands listening to their music online.

Singer Jamie Pollock told the Advertiser: "It's been a big few months for us – ever since we released Fade Away back in May, really.

"It had a big knock-on effect; opened a lot of doors for us, and got us a manager as well.

"The song really gave us a platform to build on and it's gotten our name out right across the UK. The city with the most listeners on our Spotify is London."

He added: "We will be releasing another single in February and will be touring up and down the country with The Sherlocks and The Strawberries.

"It's going to be a big year for us; so we'll be gigging daft, trying to play as many support shows as possible."

Recently, Vida were featured on Soccer AM – a Saturday morning football show on Sky Sports which has a massive audience at its disposal.

Their tune When I Call provided the backing for the popular goal of the week reel just last weekend.

"The Soccer AM thing was brilliant," Jamie added. "Our name and logo came up on the screen at the end of the clip and, when I seen that, I thought: 'Wow, there's our band name on Sky Sports'.

"We're all massive football fans ourselves and we think we could reach out to that audience in the way Oasis did.

"A song of ours was also played [over the tannoy] at Easter Road before a game and at half time. For a massive Hibs fan, that was a great feeling for me.

"Now all we need is to get ourselves featured on the Fifa game soundtrack."

In the meantime, Vida will head to the Oakwood on Tuesday night for what will be a particularly special gig for the band.

Jamie said: "Local gigs are the best; it's a great feeling when you're playing a song and the crowd are singing back.

"If we play Fade Away, I can just stand up there with the acoustic guitar and let them do it.

"At the Oakwood, we'll be on for an hour and a bit and I think we'll play a few covers.

"It's going to be that wee bit special for us as well because our old bass player Ross McShane is going to be supporting us.

"He left the band recently because he wasn't able to commit. But there's no hard feelings there; we know it was a hard decision for him.

"But he'll be there playing a few songs on his acoustic. We can't wait for it."

Tickets for the Oakwood gig are still available at £5 and the evening will also feature support from The Shambolics. Call 01259 725 552 for more information.
