Local questions will not be answered by a national 'Yes' response

There are several very good reasons for voting “No” to the “Yes” campaign.

Labour's real worry is a post-Yes England

No one should be surprised by Gordon Banks’ decision to vote with his “better together” Tory and Lib Dem chums to limit public spending on support of the poorest in our society.

MPs are too closely linked to fuel companies and banks

The soaring price of energy is affecting everyone, and the hardest hit are the poorest, who cannot afford to turn on the heating.

Nothing strange about timing of comments

I would like to reply to the letter from Councillor Les Sharp that appeared in the Alloa Advertiser on 19th March.

This will put more people in poverty

It is a sad day indeed when the MP of one of the poorest areas in Scotland, one Gordon Banks, loses the plot and his moral compass by voting with the Conservatives in Westminster on Wednesday 26th March 2014) to impose a benefit cap ceiling against those in need in his own constituency.

You lot should be banged up

Why oh why must the Advertiser resort to the use of slang in their editorial?

Decision was made by politicians, no-one else

I refer to your article published 6 February 2014, and hope to put forward a contra point of view.

Councillor Irene Hamilton should be at the head of the queue for praise

Reading last weeks edition I was surprised to read someone’s praise for one councillor, after knowing that there has been another councillor that has continued to help others during her own personal turmoil.

The facts state 'emotional' argument is a red herring

Contrary to popular belief voting Yes in the upcoming referendum is not about emotionally distancing ourselves and ostracising Scotland from our neighbours and friends in England Wales and Ireland. It is not about any fake or historical notion of national pride of about what it means to be Scottish.

Wake up ... this is the only chance we will get

With under seven months to go the Scottish electorate need to waken up and realise the magnitude of the decision they are about to take in September and realise that this is the only ever opportunity to secure our countries independence.

Councillor maintains he has best interests of Alva residents in mind

As the Councillor who two years ago suggested that if the Alva Glen Hotel were to be demolished it would be desirable to protected the frontage because it was attractive and one of the earliest buildings/ Coaching Inns in Alva, I respond to the recent letter from George Horsburgh 7 March 2014.

LGBT couples needed to provide safe homes

Research by Action for Children and New Family Social has revealed that one in two gay people in Scotland believe they cannot foster or adopt. We are writing to you to dispel this myth, so that safe homes can be found for vulnerable children in Clackmannanshire.

It's hardly an insult that the rest of the UK want us to stay with them

I am baffled at the reaction by some supporters of Scottish independence to David Cameron asking our English family and friends to ask us to stay with the UK. Also David Bowie asking us the same.

Please don't keep the facade of the Alva Glen Hotel... we're sick of looking at it

The residents of Alva are waiting with bated breath to hear why Clackmannanshire Council are insisting on continuing with their request to the Scottish Government for a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) for the dilapidated eyesore of the Alva Glen Hotel!

Alloa Health Centre ought to have a pay phone

With reference to last week’s article about the proposed new clinics at Alloa Health Centre, surely the first most important item should be a pay phone in the main entrance so that patients can ring for taxis.

In reply to your article regarding Weir Pumps Social Club in last weeks paper, the current committee is new and somewhat green as to the licensing laws.
