Political Stand by MSP Keith Brown
Last week not only was I privileged to attend a service to commemorate the arctic convoys which operated during the Second World War, I was also able to attend a medal ceremony where those who served in the convoys were awarded the arctic star medal by the UK Government.

Guide dogs charity plea
I am yet again appealing to everyone to save their used postage stamps for the Guide Dogs for the Blind. Last year I collected over a million used postage stamps which has gone to help the Guide Dogs.

Appeal to council to have food recycled
While I appreciate all the recycling Clacks Council has in hand I wondered when they would get round to recycling food.

Why do we want to be ruled by authorities with nothing in common with us
Re Neil Gaults letter (1/5/13) headlined 'It's a NO on small details', where among other things he expresses his concerns over speaker Dennis Canavan not knowing the rates of some benefits, which he seemed to believe showed that it was Mr Canavan who was out of touch rather than Westminster, who of course actually administers benefits, at least Mr Canavan was honest enough to admit that he didn't know the figures for the benefits mentioned, whereas Mr Gault seems either not to know or care that benefits and pensions are under attack right now, whilst we are in the union.

Heartfelt thanks after history lesson was so well-received
Dear Sir
May I through your columns take this opportunity to thank all the many people who offered their congratulations on the publication of my history of The Alman Dramatic Club and to your paper for having reviewed my book, which helped to boost sales.

A 'YES' would be poetry in motion
Dear Sirs,
I was unable to attend the YES meeting at Alva last Thursday, but enclose extracts of two poems written on the subject.

We can be a nation again
Dear Sir
When the glorious day dawns and "Scotland becomes a nation again" one looks forward to a truly Scottish identity emerging that will embrace all with pride and confidence, surely such a momentous event will herald in a Gold Age for Scotland, personally I look forward to this time with heart racing eagerness.

Writer and council must see the bigger picture
Several extremely recent and highly polarised contributions have emerged from Mr Angus Robbie who apparently is in full support of the council's decision to declare its pro-Palestinian stance in the unfortunate state of affairs that exists in the Middle East between the State of Israel (a democracy) and its neighbours (which are not).

Who really cares for Palestinians?
I can understand the view taken by the uninformed regarding the situation in Judea and Samaria (Palestine).

It's a NO on small details
I attended the Yes Scotland meeting at Alva on 24/4/13. I listened to Dennis Canavan tell the audience that Westminster was "out of touch" with the Scottish people, that we only have to look at the bedroom tax as proof of this and that an independent Scotland would provide better benefits for the people of Scotland.

No sign of hatred here
The supportive motion passed by the council in March was a simple act of compassion, joining millions across the UK and the world who can no longer tolerate the Israeli government's inhumane and vile acts of oppression.

Speed bumps will not make any difference
Our estate in Menstrie has speed bumps along Hazel Avenue the main road in, we also have 20mp signs, it makes no difference whatsoever.

'Race track' incorrect
Regarding the letter by H. Hamilton asking for speed bumps. I too have been a resident of Nevis Crescent for over 30 years and it is one of the quietest areas in Alloa.
