Labour MSP Dr Richard Simpson says the UK's Supreme Court decision to uphold the ban on displaying cigarettes in Scotland's shops is a "critical step".
The Mid-Scotland and Fife politician said: "I'm delighted that this last ditch and desperate appeal by Imperial Tobacco has been thrown out by the Supreme Court.
"This was their third attempt to persuade Scottish Judges into over ruling the ban, and finally the matter can be put to bed and the legislation acted upon.
"Removing tobacco from open view is a critical step in helping to reduce the sense that these products are as acceptable as others.
"Retailers should be aware the ban is coming and begin to make appropriate preparations."
