A DOLLAR house has been lit up with festive cheer this Christmas in a bid to raise money for Stromness Life Boat.

David Beveridge and wife May have been decorating their house in Murray Place for around 15 years to raise money for charity.

Last year David (75) raised 500 for Stromness Life Boat from his festive decorations and over 200 with the British Legion in Stromness.

David explained, "We always had the lights up and we weren't collecting a thing and people were coming down and admiring them. And someone said why don't you collect for charity." When he first started decorating his house to raise money, it was in aid of Fraserburgh Life Boat.

His son-in-law then bought an old croft in Stromness.

Through visiting him David got to know the life boat crew and switched his fundraising to that cause, saying they don't get a lot of funding from mainland Scotland.

David is still collecting - the lights will come down in January - and was pleased with the feedback he has received. "Everyone is delighted," he said, "I'm not disappointed so far. The kids come along and each kid that comes along gets a wee chocolate present from the wife as a wee thank you." A range of houses across the Wee County have also been in the festive spirit this Christmas with decorations in gardens and lights twinkling on buildings as can be seen in the pictures below.
