A SAUCHIE chippy has been named as one of the best in the UK.

The Bridge beat out hundreds of hopefuls across the country to place in Fry Magazine's top 50 of 2013.

Owner Alberto Jaconelli (38) told the Advertiser he was delighted with the win.

He said, "I'm very happy. The consistency of the quality of food and customer experience is really important - that's what I try to get right every time." The family-run takeaway received a 98 per cent approval rating by a mystery shopper and was one of only four Scottish fish and chip shops that made the final list.

Alberto added, "The only way is up. I'll keep going, listen to customers and try new things to improve." The Bridge is a labour of love for Alberto, who has cheerfully served Clackmannanshire customers for the past 15 years.

He's up at 7.30am to peel, chip and hand-fillet the fish and is there until the doors close at night.

Alberto said, "It's something I've always wanted to do. You need to be passionate because even when you're not here you're still working and connected to the business.

"I like to look at other shops to get new ideas and see new suppliers.

"I also like to visit the fish market once a week to see what's seasonal. I try to keep up-to-date and at the forefront." Alberto sources local produce where he can and serves up top-notch customer service alongside his warm and welcoming staff.

As for the food, the proof's in the pudding with the continual repeat business.

Alberto added, "That's what keeps you going. I like getting to know the customers - who are predominantly all regulars, but there's nothing better than hearing people say they've travelled far for a fish supper. That's when you know you must be doing something right."
