IT was a chance to celebrate the very best of the village, at the Kincardine Local Heroes Awards 2013.

Now in its third year, the event – held on Saturday 26 October in the Masonic Hall, Kilbagie Street – offered an evening full of entertainment and marked the many achievements of individuals within the community.

Linda Horan, of the sub-committee which organised the night, said the event went well.

She commented, “It was a really great night, a lot of effort goes in from the Gala and Young Committee in the preparation for the event.

“The local nursing home made us decorative black, white and red bunting and a banner for the back of the stage, the local band Devilla Fire played into the night for free and the Masonic Hall let us have the hall hire for free.

“Tulliallan Police college also lent us decorative fencing for the entrance, the piper and photographer don’t charge, local businesses sponsor events to cover costs and the Reverend and councillor give up their time to be there, so it really is a great community event.” There are seven main award categories: Best Kept Garden, Best under 20 year old, Best 3 -11 year old, Best Sportsperson /Team, Community personality of the year, The Gala Recognition Award and Best Musical Ability.

There is also The Alex Brown MBE Memorial Shield, 1st Tulliallan Company Captain 1949 -2001 which is awarded for Unsung Hero.

The majority of categories are decided by public votes from within Kincardine and ‘best musical ability’ was chosen by judges for the evening: Willie Ferguson, local Councillor, Rev Alex Shuttleworth and Margaret Cunningham this year’s gracious Lady.

Guests were greeted on arrival by local piper Gordon Morris, the opening welcome was given by Kincardine Children’s Gala Committee who performed a number to the tune of ‘Holding out for a Hero’ and compere for the evening was Darren Empson.

The Gala committee thanked all local businesses and villagers who donated prizes, sponsored categories and attended the event.

A special note of thanks was given to Ally Stocks who recorded the evening with DVD and photographs.
