East of Scotland Cup Final Arniston Rangers.........................1 Sauchie Juniors............................4 Sauchie won the DJ Laing sponsored East of Scotland cup on Saturday at Prestonfield Park, Linlithgow. The score line makes it look easy but Sauchie had to be on their game defensively as the Premier league side were attack minded.

This was a super display by the back four of Andy Munro, Iain Syme, Graeme King and Steven Kiczynski. Tony Stevenson was outstanding in the distribution from midfield allowing Collin Samuel and Darren Cummings to create problems up front.

In the first minute a Stevenson free kick was floated into the box with Munro getting up well to head inches wide.

Arniston swept quickly to the other end with Kiczynski clearing the danger in a packed goalmouth as John Court and Lumbert Kataleeza caused problems.

Stevenson then set up Gary McCulloch with his strong shot from 25 yards being held by Andy Ritchie. Stevenson then cracked the crossbar with a 25 yard free as Sauchie controlled the game.

The Gorebridge side then tested Halliwell when Paul Forbes rifled a shot at goal forcing the keeper to make a diving save.

King tidied an Arniston attack and passed to Stevenson and with his vision he cracked the ball beyond Tadg Moriarty with the keeper coming out and crashed into the centre half allowing Cummings to collect the loose ball and knock into the goal in 21 minutes.

The joy was short-lived. Moriarty made amends for the mishap, four minutes later, with a cracking bit of football that involved chipping over Syme then blasting through Bryn Halliwell from a tight angle to equalise.

Arniston gathered momentum from this goal and piled on the pressure. Greg Callaghan was given space inside the box but sent his header wildly over. Kataleeza used his speed to trouble the defence but did not trouble Halliwell. Court and Kevin Moffat were finding the Sauchie defence in great form and therefore unable to get into the danger area.

Sauchie regained the lead in 37 minutes and again Stevenson was involved. A corner was awarded on the right with Stevenson sending the ball to the corner of the six yard box and met by Cumming to header powerfully at goal and Ritchie managed to get a hand on the ball only to send it into the roof of the net.

Rangers came out in the second half determined to get back into the game with ex Jambo, Craig Thomson dictating the play. Kiczynski and King were mopping up the attacks with Halliwell dealing with crosses.

Sauchie weathered the storm and broke forward. Samuel used his lighting pace and vision to set up Calum Hendrie with a well weighted pass that allowed the striker to fire home from 15 yards in 72 minutes.

The Premier league side did not let their heads go down and pushed forward yet again. They passed the ball around well but could not get into the box or open up spaces to try and get a clear shot at goal.

Gary Bonnes, on for man of the match Cummings, sprinted through the middle and as he prepared to strike at goal Callaghan managed to get back to knock away for a corner.

The flag kick was taken short and sent to the back post where it was gathered by Samuel who dummied the keeper having him scrambling all over the ground before he pinged it home with his next touch. Time 94 minutes and last kick of the ball.

Sauchie: Halliwell, Munro, Syme, King, Kiczynski, McCulloch, Martin (Tully), Stevenson, Hendrie (Docherty), Cummings (Bonnes), Samuel.
