Pupils, parents and staff enjoyed Alva Academy’s annual prize-giving on Thursday (25 June).

The crowd was entertained by a variety of performances including music, dance and poetry before the headteacher’s annual report and the presentation of the awards.

The audience enjoyed the orchestra’s ‘Highland Cathedral’ introduction, Jennifer Ashe’s ‘Time to Say Goodbye’ and Rebecca Monk’s ‘Perfect Way to Say Goodbye’.

Then, a performance by the school’s talented dancers, gymnasts and cheerleaders was followed by Kirsten Ross who recited ‘The Fields of Blood Red Poppies’ and Mark Hetesi who delivered ‘Amazing Grace’ reflecting on their recent trip to the World War I Flanders Battlefields.

Headteacher Sharee Mackerron highlighted some of the many special moments of the past year paying tribute to the hard work of pupils and staff alike, she also thanked the whole community for its support.

There were also two surprise presentations for depute rectors Sandy Donoghue and Ian Ash, who are both leaving Alva after 20 and 22 years respectively.

The youngsters were then presented with their many awards for individual subjects such as sport, music, enterprise, citizenship and leadership.

Finally the Marshall’s Proxime Accessit medals were presented jointly to Lindsay Millar and Kara Fleming and the Marshall’s Dux Award was given to Anna Dryden.

The ceremony culminated with ‘Glasgow Kiss’ by Hanna McDermott and Jonny Clark.
