The objective for last weekend’s walk was the three Munros that make up Beinn a Ghlo.

We arrived early at the carpark near Loch Moraig and although there was a cold wind the sky clear and blue, something of a rarity these days.

The small amount of cloud clinging to the summit of Braigh Coire Chruinn-bhalgain soon cleared. After a quick trek along a track we made our way up the steep slope of Carn Liath. With the sun beating down on us as we slogged up the hill we were soon taking a few layers off.

As we approached the summit we became more exposed to the stiff cold breeze, so it was soon time to put those layers back on. Just before the summit we stopped for a wee cup of tea in a sheltered spot out the wind.

We were now getting a fantastic view of the stunning landscape around us - a view to the Cairngorms in the north and all the way down to the Lomond Hills in the South and beyond.

From the summit we could see the other two tops we planned to so we didn’t hang about. We dropped down the other side of the hill and followed a gentle ridge before climbing again for the next top.

The climb up soon had us sweating and as we were in the lee of the wind and the day was warming up we were soon taking those layers off again. But before long the summit cairn was soon in sight which meant the second summit if the day. But more importantly it also meant lunch time.

While having a refreshing cup of tea and a bite to eat we sat and took in the views. There were still some snow patches visible on some of the hills - proving just how cold a year it has been and just how long the winter was.

We set off again and dropped down into the bealach then started up hill again to our final summit of the day and at 1121 Carn nan Gabhar was the highest peak of the day.

The stiff breeze had once again cooled us down so we didn’t hang about. We retraced our steps back to the Bealach taking care over the boulder field that made up much of the summit.

Once in the lee of the wind again we could really feel the heat of the sun which made for some pleasant walking. All that was left was the big walk back out over some very boggy ground. The thought of a fine steak pie in the local pub kept us going as we made our way back to the cars.
