Pedal power will come to Sterling Mills Outlet Shopping Village later this month when it plays host to the thrilling Street Velodrome cycle circuit.

The exciting pop-up race track will be the star attraction at a free two-day extravaganza of cycling fun at the shopping village on Saturday and Sunday, 26 and 27 September.

Shoppers will be invited to saddle up and speed round the circuit on special race bikes, cheered on by friends and family.

Open to all ages and abilities, the Street Velodrome Team will also be on hand to offer tips and advice to would-be Olympians.

Working together with Clackmannanshire Council, other activities over the weekend will include:

Bikeability games for young riders to test their balance and co-ordination skills.

Balanceability sessions on balance bikes for children aged between three and five.

A two-hour Biodiversity ride to Dollar and back with the Clackmannanshire Ranger Service, leaving at 10am on Saturday 26th September.

Essential Cycling Skills sessions, including tips on bike maintenance, for adults returning to cycling.

Led Leisure rides to Gartmorn Dam Country Park, ideal for those returning to cycling and families with older children.

Bike maintenance from the experts at Stirling’s Recyke-a-Bike.

The Capital FM Street Stars will also be out in force, with a mountain bike and £500 of vouchers to give away to lucky visitors.

Sterling Mills Centre Manager Ashley Bisland said: “We’re really excited about our Street Velodrome and bike weekend. Sterling Mills is the ideal location thanks to our host of sport and outdoor retailers including adidas and Reebok, Nike, Mountain Warehouse, Trespass, Yeomans and Golf Nation.

“It promises to be a fantastic event, with something for cyclists of all ages and abilities. We also have plenty of great attractions for friends and family as they cheer them on from the sidelines.

“And, of course, the outlet itself will be open for business as normal — so shoppers will still be able to find all their favourite High Street brands for less at over 25 stores.”

Enterprise and Environment Convener Cllr Donald Balsillie said: “Clackmannanshire Council is pleased to be working with Sterling Mills to deliver this exciting bike event in Tillicoultry. We'll have staff and volunteers at Sterling Mills throughout the weekend delivering lots of exciting bike sessions and promoting cycling as a fun and healthy alternative to the car. Clackmannanshire is a wonderful county for cycling, whether you're a novice, cycling with your family, exploring with friends or looking for something a little bit more adventurous in the Ochils."
