FOLLOWING a weekend of disruption, ScottishPower insist they are doing everything they can to repair a "fault" in the Clacks power grid.

Thousands of homes across the Wee County have experienced supply issues over the last few days, with the lights going out for a short time on Friday evening.

A number of local businesses were also heavily affected, while Alloa Police Station also lost power on Sunday.

ScottishPower say they are continuing with repairs this week and hope to have the issues resolved before the weekend.

And though further blackouts have not been discounted, the energy firm say they will have engineers on "standby" to respond to any incidents.

A ScottishPower spokesperson told the Advertiser: "Due to a fault on a section of the electricity network in the Alloa area, our engineers have been working on the network to maintain supplies.

"The fault meant that we experienced a temporary loss of supplies in the area on Friday evening for 12 minutes.

"Our network is designed specifically to ensure that we can re-route supplies when we experience a fault.

"Engineers will be continuing with full repair works this week, which we expect to complete in the next few days.

"Our engineers are also on standby to ensure we can continue to provide a normal service for our customers.”

Homes in Alloa, Tullibody, Tillicoultry, Coalsnaughton, were all affected in some manner, with flickering of lights reported as far afield as Dollar and Clackmannan.

However, energy bosses argued the "network is working as it is designed to do" as they are able to re-route power from neighbouring sources while they repair the fault.
