A hiker fell around 60ft down a gorge and was very lucky to be rescued with just a shoulder injury at Dollar Glen yesterday (Thursday October 8).

Police Scotland received a call of the incident around 3.35pm after the male hiker, who was on a walk with his girlfriend, slipped and suffered an accident on the path between the town and Castle Campbell.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received a call at 3.53pm and sent two appliances from Alloa, an all-terrain vehicle from Dunblane and a specialist line rescue team from Lochgelly.

The local Ochils Mountain Rescue Team (OMRT) was also in attendance with 12 team members and the various agencies worked together to rescue the man.

An OMRT spokesperson told the Advertiser: “The Ochils Mountain Rescue Team were called out at 4.45pm on Thursday afternoon to rescue a male walker who had fallen approximately 60feet in Dollar Gorge sustaining injuries to his shoulder.

“They worked in collaboration with colleagues from Police Scotland, Scottish Fire and Rescue and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

“Twelve team members attended the incident including three rescue team doctors and a team paramedic in addition to technical rope rescue specialists.

“Despite failing light, challenging and steep terrain, the casualty was successfully rescued, treated and evacuated to a waiting ambulance for further treatment.

“The team concluded the rescue with a debrief and gear check at approximately 9pm at the Mountain Rescue Post near Fishcross.”

A spokesperson for SFRS added: “The line rescue team lowered themselves down to the casualty and provided him with first aid before getting him on a stretcher and removing him safely from the gorge.

“He was placed in the care of Scottish Ambulance Service and taken to Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert for treatment to a shoulder injury.”

The Advertiser understands he is now home and recovering after the incident.
