A CHILDREN'S toy spotted through a car window has sparked a bomb scare in Clackmannanshire this afternoon (Tuesday).

Police were alerted at around 2.30pm following reports of a grenade seen by a member of the public on Meadow Green, Sauchie.

Officers raced to the scene before additional emergency services were called out as a precaution.

In addition to the significant police presence, paramedics and the emergency response unit was put on stand-by, along with at least one fire engine.

The Ministry of Defence bomb disposal unit was then dispatched from Edinburgh to assess the situation, but left shortly after arriving.

The experts examined the "suspicious device", parked outside a property about half way down the street, before sounding the all-clear.

The Advertiser understands the item turned out to be a toy grenade, although this had to be confirmed by the MoD before the police cordon was lowered.

Police Scotland confirmed there had danger to the public during the operation.

A spokesperson said: "Police in Forth Valley were called to Meadow Green, Sauchie, around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 3 November, following a report of a suspicious device being found within a car.

“Officers and partner agencies conducted the necessary enquiries, and there was found to be no danger to the public.”
