AN APPEAL has been launched to raise money to keep Tullibody Community Garden growing.

In just one year the group behind it – Tullibody Healthy Living (THL) – has turned a grass playing field into a beautiful, and productive space for the good of local residents.

However, it now faces a funding gap and needs a helping hand to keep the garden running for the next four months.

An appeal has been kick-started via the fundraising website Just Giving to raise the £5500 necessary to keep the project ticking over until additional funding can be applied for early next year.

Andrea Fraser, a THL board member, said: “We’ve raised a quarter of our target but we need more people to give and be part of the project.

"Your donation will help us support more local volunteers to grow even more fresh fruit and veg, run cookery and gardening workshops and keep our gardener to keep things going. Everyone is welcome to come and see what we’ve achieved so far.

“If you know how good gardening is or the pleasure of eating and cooking fresh fruit and veg, or you think that the garden will be good for Tullibody, then please donate now.

“You can also help us by spreading the word. Tell everyone you know about our appeal.

"You can visit the garden every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday between 11am and 2pm. Let us know that you’re coming, so call us first on 01259 724374.”

The aim of the garden is to provide fresh produce for sale locally at the fruit barra and to encourage residents to grow their own to reduce their carbon footprint.

It also promotes learning new skills, improved confidence and making friends.

Just last month the garden was unveiled to the public during two successful open days, which saw almost 200 residents turn out to show their support.

Situated between Paterson Place and Carseview, the plot has a beautiful array of flowers, along with a variety of produce such as cauliflower, cabbage, beans, peas, carrots, rhubarb, strawberries and much more.
