SCOTTISH LABOUR has selected Sauchie man Craig Miller to contest the Clackmannanshire and Dunblane constituency seat later this year.

The 29-year-old will go up against SNP incumbent Keith Brown in the Scottish Parliament elections due to take place on May 5.

The only other party to have announced a candidate for constituency seat is the Scottish Conservatives who selected Alexander Stewart to run.

Mr Miller was selected in the first round of voting during a members' meeting at the Macrobert Arts Centre last week, describing his selection as a "complete privilege".

He currently works as an aide to retiring MSP, Dr Richard Simpson, and is no stranger to election campaigns over the last few years.

Known for being active in his community, he has helped with fundraising and organising of many local projects including a Celebration of the Commonwealth Games, the Return of the Christmas Tree Lights in Sauchie and has most recently started a community choir at the Sauchie Community Group, where serves as vice-chairperson.

Mr Miller said: “It is a real honour to have been selected as the Candidate for Scottish Labour; furthermore it is a complete privilege to be able to fight the seat in which I live.

“I am under no illusion of the difficult predicament that my Party finds itself in; however, I am fighting this seat to win and will work tirelessly over the next couple of months to put forward my case to voters in Clackmannanshire, Bridge of Allan and Dunblane.

“There is an alternative to austerity, fuel poverty, food banks, cuts to educations and savage cuts to our local authorities. I am looking forward to putting those alternatives and my vision for a fairer and more equal Scotland to the electorate.”
