A FIREMAN was attacked in Tullibody last night while helping to extinguish a bedroom blaze with colleagues.

Police say a 16-year-old was traced and arrested this morning and is expected to be charged with assault under the Emergency Workers (Scotland) Act.

The firecrew attended the property at around 8.50pm last night, with a well-established fire ongoing.

As they quickly worked to quell the flames, it is understood the teenager approached the house and made an attempt to re-enter, despite firecrews still dealing with the call out.

During the incident, one firefighter is believed to have sustained face and neck injuries.

Police traced the teen this morning and he is expected to appear before a sheriff tomorrow (Thursday).

The local fire service condemned the attack, with Alloa Station Manager Andy Bennett telling the Advertiser: “Attacks on emergency responders are completely unacceptable.

"I am sure the public would be outraged by this type of incident where their firefighters have been targeted while working to protect people and property.

“Those responsible should know that the authorities take these mindless criminal actions extremely seriously and we work closely with police to ensure they are identified and held to account.”
