A CLACKMANNAN woman is celebrating her 100th birthday today.

Mrs Janet Pollock was born a century ago and got a visit from Provost Tina Murphy, Vice Lord Lieutenant Jean Hunter and councillor Irene Hamilton, who were piped into her home by local lad Jacob Robertson.

Alloa and Hillfoots Advertiser:

Surrounded by a sea of birthday cards, guests and family, some of whom came to visit from as far as Australia, she enjoyed teas and eats around noon.

Mrs Pollock, who has two children, six grandchildren and six great-grandkids, also received a card from Her Majesty the Queen and the family is looking forwards to a big lunch on Sunday.

She said the highlight of the past 100 years was meeting her husband John, who was a Sergeant-Major in the Cameronians (Scottish Rifles). They met in Alloa when he was stationed here and “didn't hang about”, as Provost Murphy put it, having got married the year after.
