CLACKS kids have been hitting the decks and raising some beats in Alloa’s Bowmar Centre.

The Arts Academy, being run by the council’s Youth Services team over the Easter break, has allowed the children to get down and dirty with crafts as well as the opportunity to spin some tunes in the centre’s music studio.

Karen Newbigging, community learning and development worker, said: “I think it speaks for itself the amount of people that are here, it’s really important to open doors to the kids.

“It gives them opportunities that they might not have had before. This programme is free, so some of those who may not be able to afford other programmes can come here and it certainly can help the kids.”

In the music studio the children have been learning how to play the ukulele with instructors and how to play in time together.

Karen added: “In the music studio the staff are very interactive with the kids and there’s queues for the music sessions, the kids are really enjoying it.”

Parents and carers will get the chance to see their child’s artwork and music at the end of the month in an exhibition and fashion show on Friday, April 29, 6.30pm to 8.30pm.

The organiser said: “We’re inviting the parents along to let them see what the young ones have done over the two weeks because sometimes you’re in all these programmes and you haven’t got any idea what the kids have been up to.

“We hope to run more programme like this and we’ll take it to the children after the two weeks and ask them what they want.”
