SCOTTISH Liberal Democrat candidate for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane Dr Christopher McKinlay recently received a campaign boost from Lord Campbell.

At a fundraising event two weeks ago, party leader Willie Rennie and former leader Lord Campbell were both on hand to wish the candidate well on his electoral campaign to be the next MSP for the constituency.

He said: “I am proud to have the support of Lord Campbell in my campaign to be elected as the next MSP for Clackmannanshire and Dunblane. Today was an important event in galvanising the campaign during the final weeks, before the vote on May 5.”

Dr McKinlay thanked both Lord Campbell and Willie Rennie for their support, saying that Willie Rennie has provided ongoing encouragement and support for his campaign.

He also added: “I am thankful too for the opportunity to have the benefit of the advice Lord Campbell was able to offer”.

The candidate hopes that during the remainder of the campaign, there will be a robust engagement about policy and constituency issues that matter to local people.

Dr McKinlay explained: “I have already been approached by a resident seeking to highlight an ongoing problem, which has been neglected.

“The issue raised related to the difficulties of disabled access to the platform at Stirling Railway Station, for those travelling to and from Alloa. This has been an ongoing concern, which the community feel has not received the priority it deserves.

“If elected, it will be one of my priorities, to take action to bring about a resolution to this issue. It is essential that we fight to end this type of discrimination and address the need to adequately provide suitable access for all passengers to allow them to take full advantage of the rail network.”

He said that he “would welcome the opportunity to tackle this and other local issues and work with all members of the community to create outcomes that reflect the needs of the electorate”, adding that he firmly believes the policies of the party offer a fresh approach to enabling everyone in the community opportunities to fulfil their potential regardless of age, disability or personal circumstances.
