AN ALLOA man spotted a pair of cetaceans in the Forth near Cambus yesterday afternoon.

Local Paul Young was enjoying the sunny weather as he was out on a walk on the recently resurfaced path in the woods near Cambus with his partner, nephew and two Italian greyhounds, when the group spotted something in the waters.

A pair of cetaceans, believed to be harbour porpoises, kept resurfacing and Paul captured some footage, which he wished to share with readers.

Porpoises are one of the smallest marine mammals and are closely related to dolphins. They tend to stay close to coastal areas or river estuaries and often venture up rivers, like the Forth.

Along the River Forth, porpoises have been spotted as far up as Stirling Bridge in the past. The animals tend to be alone or in small groups, although they may for larger groups in areas rich in food.

They are less than two metres long and weigh about 45kg.
