ASDA has issued a recall for some of its own brand chicken and sweetcorn pasta salad, after it was found to contain salmonella.

Products with the use by date of April 23 and a barcode 505478110346 should not be eaten and returned to the store, the Food Standard Agency (FSA) said.

Customers are advised they do not require a receipt to return the product.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause food poisoning.

A spokesperson for the FSA said: "Asda is recalling its Chicken and Pasta Salad 400g on a precautionary basis because salmonella has been found during routine testing of one sample. If you have purchased this product, please do not eat it.

"Product recall notices have been displayed in stores that sell the product, explaining to customers the reason for recall and the actions they can take if they have bought the affected product.

"No other Asda products are known to be affected."

If you have purchased Chicken and Pasta Salad 400g with the above date code please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.
